The average American uses 82 gallons of water per day in their home. It is critical that not only the water is treated and safe to drink, but also the water gets to residents without leaking through pipes. The importance of replacing aging water infrastructure continues to grow. The longer we wait to replace this infrastructure the more it will cost as it continues to deteriorate. While some cities have been very proactive in replacing aging infrastructure others have not and issues are beginning to arise with leaky and contaminated pipelines. The EPA says 14% of treated water is lost due to leaky pipes while some water systems have reported losses up to 60%. Many of the aging pipes also contain lead which we know causes various health concerns. It is important we all work together to replace this water infrastructure soon, so we all have access to safe and clean drinking water. This cannot be done alone.
